UPDATE (1st April): Thank you all for your overwhelming support and response! All our self-care packs have now been fully redeemed, and we’re excited to get these out to you all, or to healthcare heroes you have nominated. We are humbled by the incredible kindness and positivity. Stay safe, and continue to spread love.

If, at the beginning of this year, someone would have said that the entire world would be in lock down 3 months into 2020, none of us would have believed it. It feels surreal when reality starts to look a lot like a sci-fi movie. But unlike in movies, where there’s just one lead hero, in real life we have hundreds of thousands of such heroeshealthcare professionals who are risking their lives to protect ours.

They are out there on the front lines, and they’re being hit hard as the pandemic intensifies and continues its devastation around the world. As of the end of March, COVID-19 has claimed more than a staggering 24,000 lives worldwide, and the numbers keep climbing. Across borders, overwhelmed medical staff are being stretched to their limits physically and mentally.

“Be selfless, stay at home and protect those who are most fragile. I have to go to work and do my part. You do yours, I ask you please.”
– Alessia Bonari, Milan, Italy

The escalating number of cases are quickly exceeding supplies and resources, and with diminishing protective gear, medical staff are more at risk now than ever. Many doctors and nurses have taken to social media to share their ongoing plight. Their exhausted, puffy faces, marked and bruised by their goggles and suffocating protective gear from head-to-toe, sends a haunting message: we all need to help them, and each other, by doing our part – social distancing to limit the spread.

These heroes are working selflessly and tirelessly for humanity. So we’re doing our part too by spreading awareness and shining a light on them, because they deserve to know their sacrifices are not going unnoticed.

If you have the possibility to do so, please stay home. Stay home for those who are vulnerable. Stay home to #FlattenTheCurve. Stay home to help these heroes who are fighting for us all every day, and doing everything they can to keep the world safe. Right now, staying home is one of the best and only ways to help them.

“If I could say one thing to people it would be to please stay at home. This is the only help that you can give us.” – Paolo Miranda, ICU worker, Cremona, Italy
