Is it toner-serum-eye cream or serum-toner-eye cream? And when does moisturiser come into the picture? What about sunscreen?
More complicated than our Facebook relationship status is our relationship with skincare. With so many products out there, we just slap on everything and anything, hoping it would work for our skin. However, if the products are not used in the right order, your skincare regimen can either lead to not so pleasant results or will simply be counter-productive for your skin
Fret not. Our skin experts have created this quick and easy guide to the optimal skincare routine to prep your skin for the day.
Key Steps to Prepping your Skin for the Day
Step 1: Cleansers
Wash your face with a cleanser as soon as you wake up— and we mean exactly that! Your skin accumulates a lot of impurities, dirt, and oil from your hair and pillowcase while you are sleeping. And no, don’t lay in bed for another hour just because it’s a weekend.
A good cleanser cleans out all of the said impurities without taking away skin’s natural moisture.
Step 2: Exfoliant
Use an exfoliant two or three times a week to get rid of the dead skin cells. Our skin renews itself constantly to replace dead surface skin cells. And sometimes, these dead skin cells need a little help to be removed! Failing which, can make your skin look patchy and discoloured.
What an exfoliant does is it assists your skin to get rid of the dead layer and brings newer skin cells to the surface. The result? Your skin will look all glowy. ✨
Tip: If you don’t have time in the morning, you can move this step to your PM routine!
Step 3: Toner
Apply some toner on a cotton pad (your fingertips work too), and gently pat the toner onto your face. Toners are a crucial step in any skincare regimen as they help to tighten and cleanse pores, restore the skin’s natural pH, prevent moisture loss, wrinkles, and ultimately primes your face for skincare and makeup.
Tip: Avoid using an alcohol-based toner, as these can be harsh on your skin. Try going for a personalised toner that suits your skin type.
Step 4: Serum
Serums are a very essential part of the skincare routine and should definitely not be skipped. We’ll tell you why: serums are concentrated formulations that target specific issues like wrinkles, acne, fine lines, and so on.
Apply it gently to your skin and wait 5 minutes before applying anything else.
Tip: Because they are concentrated and targeted for a skin concern, a personalised serum is highly recommended (just imagine the wonders it will do when a personalised serum factors in your skin concerns, lifestyle AND environmental factors)— and we’re not just saying that because we sell it.

Step 5: Eye Serums
Incorporate eye serums in your skincare routine from an early age to prevent those pesky wrinkles and dark eye circles. An eye serum will also help to reduce eye puffiness and rejuvenate the thin layer of skin around the eyes. Good things come in small packages, right?
Step 6: Moisturiser
A moisturiser hydrates your skin and locks in all the products you have used. It is an essential step for everyone— even those with oily skin types. If your skin senses that it is dry, it’ll produce even more oil… which is counterproductive and not something you’d want.
Look for a moisturiser and apply it to your neck as well. You can apply a separate moisturiser and sunscreen, too.
Voila! Your skin is all prepped up for the day.
